LONDON MIDLAND ASKED TO MOVE THEIR EVENING PEAK FARE PERIOD AT EUSTON BACK BY FIVE MINUTES TO HELP WORKING PARENTS
12 February 2010

South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous has written to the Managing Director of London Midland railways to ask him to move London Midland’s evening peak fare period back by five minutes to allow people to catch the 16.48 train home without having to pay the full fare. At present the evening peak fare period runs from 16.45 to 18.45. People needing to travel on the cheaper fare now have to catch the 16.24.
Andrew Selous said, “I was visited by a working mother in my surgery this week who is having to pay £1,100 a year more to get the train back in time to pick up her child from her childminder. If London Midland would put the evening peak period time back by five minutes it would be a great help to many working parents, very many of whom can not afford this steep increase in train fares. I believe that flexible and part time working is increasingly important and hope that London Midland will play its part in helping people who need to work flexibly to accommodate their caring responsibilities”.
