Andrew Selous drives Vauxhall's new electric car

Car of the future comes to Parliament

South West Bedfordshire MP Andrew Selous was able to drive Vauxhall’s new electric car the Ampera around Parliament this week. The car will be on sale in the UK in 2012. It does 100 mph and can travel 40 miles on the battery alone without using its petrol engine at all. It can travel a further 310 miles with its petrol engine. For most journeys therefore only the battery would be used.

Andrew Selous said “I have been pressing the government to make the UK a centre for the manufacture of electric vehicles for some time now. The Ampera drove really well and had great acceleration. I was a little nervous that I wouldn’t crash it as it is the only one in the UK at present. I hope that the Luton plant where many of my constituents work starts building electric vehicles soon.”
